Kenya, the first image that comes to my mind is one of teeming wildlife (especially Flamingo at Lake Naguru). An adventure wonderland, Kenya promises the globe's most magnificent wildlife parks, unsullied beaches, thriving coral reefs, memorable mountainscapes and ancient Swachili cities.
Have you ever watched Hong Kong TV series??? It tells a lot regarding Nairobi.( I have forgotten the title but it related to voluntary doctor)
Unfortunately, our stay in Nairobi was too short ( arr in the afternoon & dep next day afternoon ) and advisable remained in hotel.
Nairobi offers a cosmopolitan and lively atmosphere but it had struggled with rising crime and earning a dangerous city reputation (Nickname: "Nairobbery"). Despite all this, I still went out to nearby flea market to get fridge magnet along with the hotel concierge guidance.
Wood carvings are the most popular objects, from the small animal wooden shapes, coarse and worthless but nice anyway.
A great place to buy a souvenir or a gift for someone back home. Best buys include batiks, glass bead work, stone chess boards, animal carvings and more.
Batiks are painted cloths for wall decoration. The more modest ones are monochrome and painted on cotton cloth. The most refined and expensive, only found at the Nairobi art galleries, are richly coloured and painted on silk. Besides that, plenty of typical Maasai bracelets and necklaces which made with coloured beads.
The prices for all goods destined to tourists are extremely costly but the possibility of bargaining is always up. (In my point of view, if i don't bargain at all, i'l be promoting the practice exercised by many retailers of rising the prices every day while they check that buyers keep on bearing with it and this price rise does not result in any profit for the country's economy)
As everyone, I don't like to be swindled and usually unable to estimate a fair price as well. Hence, I just paid reasonable price (according my own judgement) for 2 magnets (USD2.50) and 1 clay plates (USD2) .
